The melancholy
goober-next-door

actor and filmmaker

There have been two formative experiences in my acting career:
You Look Great, a short film I wrote, directed, and starred in that was inspired by personal experiences with eating disorders. And Myth, my first feature film as both an actor and lead.

Leading Myth as Alex while I was a young actor gave me the thrill of surrendering to the emotional journey of someone else. It taught me that with such a big honor and opportunity comes an even bigger responsibility. The story rests entirely on your shoulders, and without taking the work seriously – by knowing the plot and lines and actions top to bottom, by allowing yourself to be an open vessel for wherever the story may go, by setting your ego aside and readying yourself to truly collaborate – there is no movie.

You Look Great, on the other hand, was my first foray into filmmaking – and a trial by fire. As an actor, I was already very familiar with the protocols and expectations of a film set, but bringing everyone there from absolute zero is something else entirely. Thankfully, my deep belief in my story and struggle made it possible for me to tackle the many unexpected obstacles of independent producing. It’s important, however, to note that I without a doubt wouldn’t have gotten there without my ten villages of trusted friends, family, and peers cheering me on. Because of their talent, support, and love, I not only found great success with You Look Great, but also the way I want to work and the people I want to surround myself with – on and off of set.

Justin Andrew Davis

Height: 5’9 – Hair: Brown – Eyes: Blue

The vibe:
A friendly, familiar face, one that’s somehow innocent and hiding secrets. Gritty, pensive, yet joyful; unexpectedly dark humor; open yet subtle vulnerability.

If we’re going to type cast:
Boy (man?) next door; writer; nerd/awkward guy; office-type professional; unsuspecting serial killer (lol); romantic (emotional) lead.

"As the impressionable Alex, Davis remains imminently sympathetic. He’s young and vulnerable but never crosses over into a gullible pushover."

You Look Great

You Look Great – my first short film as a writer, director, and filmmaker – has played at over a dozen film festivals nationally, earning several prestigious awards and nominations over the course of its two year run. Inspired by my personal experiences with eating disorders, You Look Great is an unflinching, intimate look into our addictions, obsessions, and self-consciousness. It offers a realistic insight into a strangely unrepresented story: that of a man fighting to hide his unhealthy relationship with his body.
